Hey, i just got a new iPhone yesterday. I'm with Fido.

I didn't want to get the caller id package because whoever was calling me would be in my phone book, so i thought it would show their name and such whenever they call, but all it says is unknown. Is there something wrong with the phone or do you need to pay for caller id even though you have the contact in your phone?

I'm sorry if this is a stupid question, this is my first phone

The caller id sends the incoming number to your phone to be id' if it's not in the phone book no id. No caller id provisioned by provider, the phone number is not sent to the phone. I'd imagine that caller ID would be part of the iPhone package from your provider, but I'm with AT&T so I can't speak for Fido.

I am with Fido too. Like what ericvmazzone said, caller id allows your phone to receive the number that's calling you. If you didn't pay for that, then your phone will always show unknown even if the person calling you is on your phone book, so it's working as it should. I personally can't live without caller id, but some might be able to.
