Check out what happened to my iphone camera. It was working just fine, yesterday and when i took it out today it was like that. It changes colors from clear to dark purple and green, and sometimes blue. I didnt drop the phone or anything. Just wondering if anything like this has happened to anybody here? or something similar that can help me out. Is there like a way to reset the camera settings or something like that, that could help me? Thanks.

Wow, that's crazy.

Have you tried resetting the phone by holding the HOME and power buttons until the Apple logo shows up (i.e. don't let go when you see the "Slide to Power Off" option).

I would restart the machine, and if that doesnt work, bring it to apple and they should replace it for yee. thats awesome man, but really not at all and quite unfortunate.

thanks for the help but it didnt work, i held the home and shutoff button like u said till the apple logo came on, but its still showing the strange color camera! U really think Apple is gonna replace it free of charge orrr......

I would make an appointment with the Apple Genius Bar and have them exchange it for you if you're near an Apple retail store otherwise i'd call the Apple number and explain your issue.

If you take a picture and transfer it to a computer, do the images show up like that? It would be interesting to see if the problem was in the camera or the iPhone's display of the camera image.

Couple possibilities immediately come to mind:

1. The imaging drivers are corrupted. A full restore might solve this problem, or whatever has to be done in order to remove and replace the imaging drivers associated with the camera. I've seen this happen in scanners also where the driver goes corrupt and you get weird colors like that until you replace the drivers.

2. The camera sensor is damaged. Scanners will sometimes have damage to their scanning element which will result in permanent optical aberration like this. I think it's interesting that the pattern is in lines because that, coupled with the slow exposure timing for the iPhone camera suggests that the CCD captures an image a line at a time (albeit faster than a flatbed scanner). I've heard of such imaging devices and it's entirely possible the imaging device itself is damaged.

The physical damage might arise from putting too much pressure on the image element... like if you sat on it and didn't realize it. If you keep it in your pocket be sure it doesnt slip behind your leg when seated, or keep it in a hard case that prevents direct pressure to the phone.

I'd first try a full reinstall of the system software, etc. on the phone... I can't remember if restore does this or if you have to select the option to not use a saved image and then reactivate the phone and reconfigure all your settings...

Then if that doesn't work, take it in to the Apple Store.

Something simmilar happened to me...my camera suddenly started making everything seem like a cartoon (for lack of a better description). The colors were very saturated and just odd looking...like the posterize filter in Photoshop. Hard resets and a full restore did nothing so Apple replaced it without a fuss. Judging by the tech's reaction it was a very rare issue so I guess we are the luck ones.

Glad to say that I sent my Iphone to APPLE and they sent a new one for free! It had a few scratches and Bumps haa but it didnt matter! Thanks for helping!

Congratulations! Let this be an example to others having camera issues in these threads. I bet it's easier to just issue a new phone rather than tear it apart and diagnose it. Fixing these phones seems pointless due to how labor intesive it would be. If you send in a phone...you get a new one back. I haven't heard of anyone sending a phone in and getting their original back but "fixed".

Just wondering, when u got ur new iPhone did u have to add contacts and all that info again? or did they somehow transfered all the settings and contacts?

I'm about 100% sure they didn't transfer any personal data onto the new phone for him. I've returned my iPhone twice and your pretty much just have to re-sync everything to you new iPhone via iTunes.

So it helps to have a very recent sync so you don't lose any new info

That bad. I mean if I'd have my phone replaced I'd have to add all 200 contacts and emails again. Is there any way to save all contacts on comp so I could just add them back on let's say after restore ?

Just create a yahoo account and sync them to that using iTunes, then sync them back to your new phone.

or another Contact syncing option that works best for you.

Ok thanks a lot, i didn't know that there is an option like that. BUt now another question comes up. I connected iPHone to iTunes (I'm on Windows) and clicked on Info tab and the only option there is "Sync contacts FROM" -> Yahoo adress book, Windows adress book. But what do i do if i what to sync all contacts from iPhone to either one of those (yahoo or windows adress book)? Thanks and i appreciate ur help

This same exact thing is happening to y iPhone camera! it happened before not too long ago...before mine was like reddish green and resembled the "thermal" settings on a camera. That time, all I did was plug it into the charger and it went back to normal. But this time it happened again and everythings pink! You can still see whatever you're capturing but it's just all pink and white...I'm scared to death! I love my iPhone, it's a 2g and I just got it from eBay last month. If I restore it (it's jailbroken), can they tell it's jailbroken? And if I take it to the apple genius bar will they replace it for me? Because I read some of the comments below and someone said they will replace it no problem...but I'm pretty sure the warranty for mine is long gone. And if I get a new one will they automatically place the data plan in it? PLEASE SOMEONE LIFT MY WORRIES!

I am sorry to say, yes Apple knows when your iPhone is jailbroken and they will not help you with anything if your wireless carrier is not AT&T. Apple has a contract with AT&T, you cant get help from the apple store, tech support, no repairs, no replacement, they won't fix it or touch it. My friend went though it. I mean what I say "THEY WILL NOT SUPPORT YOU WITH A JAILBROKEN PHONE" I think you should know this before wasting your time...... By the way, even if your phone was not jailbroken they won't do anything to help you if your warranty has run out unless you buy the Apple protection warranty package (or something like that) they have and the agent told me that it extends your warranty up to 2 years from the day you purchased the phone. So like if you had the phone for 1 year then when you buy that warranty it adds another year of coverage to give you 2 years total. Also they dont update your data into a new phone, you have to do it yourself through itunes. Backup your info in itunes and when you get a new phone sync that info to ur new phone. I hope that thishas helped you in some way. I apologize if its not what you wanted to hear but I am trying to save you the stress I went through.

Iphone Camera gone CRAZY!

Mine, too. (Andy Warhol is rolling over in his grave.)

I am viewing this as an excuse to get a new iPhone. I'd really like to keep the "broken" one as a fun-whacky-photos-only camera. I hope that is an option.

Iphone Camera gone CRAZY!

I called AT&T, and one of the phone menu options was to be redirected to Apple Support. Apple phone-support fixed the problem. You probably don't need to go to Apple via AT&T like I did. In fact, try this and be done with it:
From the home screen on your iPhone find and click Settings>>General>>Reset (last option at bottom of screen) >>Reset Network Settings (middle of page)>>(pop up:) Reset Network Settings (in red) OR cancel.
This restarts your phone, it does not erase your data. After that my photos went from white, pink and purple only to regular colors. Hope it works for you.

How To Fix!!

My gf's camera was giving her a sort of thermal meets nightvision look. Where everything was green and purple. Although it would work outdoors perfectly. I thought it was an issue with hardware, or whatever, if any, light recognition components problems.

I came across this solution on the internet searching for an answer.

MOST of the time, its just the camera lens coming loose. Simply "pinch" around the phones casing, that surrounds the camera for a minute or so. And dont worry, you have to use excessive force to crack the screen. I pressed hard, and it was only a 2g. But this did fix the issue for her, and the camera works perfect!

HOPE THIS HELPS

Thanks! I had this problem, but the image went back to normal after pinching the casing.
