This guy managed to hack the iCloud activation lock, restoring a phone without being asked for the password of the previous owner, who had reported it as lost. Unbelievable!

It appears to be a method used for years that exploits a server-side flaw. How is it possible that it has not been fixed? It is used by thieves undisturbed.

Hacking of Activation lock has been around for a few years. It just isn't discussed here because the rules say not to bring it up. Possibly that is why you are so surprised this is an actual thing.
