As the title states, I can't connect my iPhone 13 to my M1 MBP via the included lighting cable. It's been like this ever since I got the iPhone 3 months ago. The cable charges the iPhone perfectly fine, but it seems to have no data support. I checked the system preferences in the USB section and the Mac doesn't recognise that the iPhone is connected. I have tried
  • Resetting the USB port though the terminal
  • Restarting the iPhone
  • Restarting the Mac
  • Trying another offical apple cable.
My thoughts are either
  • Apple makes power only cables??
  • I somehow managed to land two faulty cables
  • New M1 Macbooks don't like iPhones.
I need to be able to connect my iPhone though USB because I need to transfer 70GB of photos / videos. Airdrop is slower and doesn't seem to work well as I have too many files to transfer at once. After a few minutes it cuts halfway though and I get an error. Also airdrop does not have support for Live photos, so I'm sticking to cabled anyways.

Anyone has the same experience? Surprised I can't do something so basic :(

Edit: Never mind, after 30 minutes of troubleshooting the message finally came up on my iPhone trust this computer and i pressed it and now it works. Still shouldn't have taken this long.

If the above doesn't work it wouldn't hurt to try a new cable. Can you connect the iPhone wireless and see it in Finder?

I'm glad OP has worked it out.
I haven't.
iPhone is charging, but won't show any trust prompt.
