You know, I would pay for the locate me feature, but I have no need for the other features of MobileMe. I bet a lot of people would pay 20-25 bucks for some peace of mind.

You can find a MobileMe Family Pack for around $100 plus shipping/free shipping. Also, AT&T has a nice FamilyMap or something like that for monthly fees...

$100/year is a lot to pay for the ability to track one iPhone. Weighing that cost against my homeowner's insurance deductible and the actual odds of my phone being lost or stolen, getting a MobileMe account just for that one feature doesn't really make sense.

I'm not complaining. Apple has the right to bundle services just like anyone else. But I think Apple may be missing out on a lot of people who don't want mobile me but would pay for Locate My iPhone if it were offered a la carte.

You know when your iPhone gets stolen and you want to get it back? Well, there is an app for that.

LOL to the edit.

Actually, that $100 price tag is pretty reasonable since the Family Pack would normally cost about $149 plus tax, and it would allow a Member account and (4) Family member accounts. Basically, I can enjoy the other services and track all five iPhone on my Family Account.....

Not everyone has five iPhones...

That story is too vague about the details.
Mass media = spread of misinformation

I can imagine thousands of people now think that they can track their iPhone's because of the GPS chip for free ( without having a mobileme account)

Please don't blame the mass media for people's unwillingness to do a little research on their own.

I would rather potential thieves read this, and think that any iPhone can be tracked, and hopefully that will deter them from stealing my stuff. Go mass media.

actually if you watch the video, in the upper right hand corner, they say that he used mobile me to track his phone.

You'd think the tracking would be offered for free in cases in which a crime has been committed. Besides, can't police use a warrant to do this anyway (if they were bothered)?

LMAO!!!! Someone should actually put that together and upload it to YouTube! :D

But, yeah, I love stories like this, and I too wish that Apple would put a serperate thing up so I can get Find My iPhone and no other MobileMe features. The Palm Pre has MobileMe features for free with every device after all! Maybe that will persuade Apple... Probably not, though.
