Hello everyone.

While my iPhone X is still on its merry way from Memphis, TN, there is something I noticed a while ago with my current iPhone and has been bugging me since then. Back on iOS 10, I could use USB hubs/port on my desktop to charge my iPhone 7. Now on iOS 11 (more specifically after 11.1), it barely moves a pixel of the battery indicator. Eventually, it will charge, but takes like 5 times longer than it used to take before. Using the Apple charger provided with the phone charges as fast as expected. Same happened with wife's phone - another iPhone 7.

And then, Apple decides to advertise (and sell) more powerful chargers and USB-C to Lightning cables, which makes me walk into the conspiracy theory territory...

Has anybody else noticed this behavior too? I will do a few more tests tomorrow with the two "spare" phones for a couple days.

Thanks!

Something with your phone(s), my guess. My 8 on 11.1.1 is charging fine on USB port on Macbook Pro (early 2008; ticking up as I type here), 2 USB port 24W charger (charging way fast on that), and on 30-pin connector connected to 30-pin to Lighting connector attached to Vais iPod controller in the car.

Check your app battery usage, to see if something is churning away in the background.

Restart the phone. If not that, hard reset. If not that, might try to clean install, to see if clears what might be stuff in background.

If you go to "System Information" via About This Mac (or Spotlight...) and click on USB on the left, select your phone from the devices that show up and it'll tell you how much power is going to it! I remember my iMac had an issue after some beta update a year or so ago where it wouldn't send more than 1A to any device.
