Does anyone know of any web-based chatrooms that are iPhone-compatible? Many I've found are not, but the one I have found that works--chatroll.com--doesn't let users "send" their text because it doesn't have a separate "enter" button and the return key just pushes the cursor down a line. Ideally it would be registration free and have a decent UI, but that's really just wishful thinking at this point.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance,

Chatroll iPhone-compatible group chat... soon!

Hi kwarren,

It's Jon here, one of the founders of Chatroll. We've been pretty amazed by the amount of interest Chatroll members have been showing for iPhone support, so we've decided to get Chatroll working on the iPhone as soon as possible.

Like you mentioned, Chatroll works 99.9% on the iPhone now, except for a missing "Send" button. So, you can see the chat going on in real-time, but you can't actually send a message. This will be a pretty easy fix, and we plan to have it out in the next couple weeks.

Re: your other questions, definitely not wishful thinking. :) First, Chatroll IS registration-free. Your guests can simply enter their name to participate. Second, we plan to create a better mobile UI, but that may be a bit farther out. For now, Chatroll works best if you create the chat via the web (http://chatroll.com/create), embed it somewhere (i.e. in your own blog or website), then navigate to that site on your iPhone.

We're all pretty excited about iPhone support on Chatroll... so stay tuned!

Cheers,
Jon

Update - Chatroll is now iPhone-compatible!

Simply tap the chat input to bring up your iPhone virtual keyboard, enter your message, then tap "return" to send the message.

I hope you'll find embedding Chatroll in your website gets you everything you're looking for- your desktop web browser visitors (Firefox / Internet Explorer / Safari) can chat normally via your site (sidebar or dedicated chat room page are popular options), and your iPhone visitors can zoom in to the chat and use it from the exact same place.

Contact us at http://chatroll.com/support if you have any questions. Enjoy and let us know how it works out for you!

Cheers,
Jon
