My iPhone is frozen at the black screen with the white apple logo and the loading animation at the bottom. Itunes doesnt recognize it, and the hold switch, home button, and power button don't respond so I cant just reset it. Everything is frozen and not responding. I have no idea what to do...someone PLEASE help.

try putting it into recovery mode by holding down home button and then power button until you get a connect to itunes screen.

The buttons dont seem to be responding whatsoever...should I have to hold them down for longer than the normal 30 seconds? I've tried holding them down for over a minute and nothing happened

yeah...just held them down for over 3 minutes...nothing happened

Try plugging it into the wall as though to recharge it and see if that does anything. Its a long shot but it may just give it a nudge in the ribs. If that doesnt work then unplug it again to see if that does anything.

By the way were you updating it by any chance when it went fugoogly? If so you may have stopped it halfway through an update which may mean a visit to the Apple store.

I was in the process of downgrading to firmware 1.0.2 and it got stuck on the "waiting for iphone" screen in itunes. So I unplugged it because it wasnt doing anything whatsoever. What will they do at the apple store? I better not have to buy a new logic board.

In case you were wondering why I was downgrading the firmware...it was because the iphone was stuck in recovery mode on the connect to itunes screen, and I'd restore and update and it would just take me right back into recovery mode no matter what I did. I read on some website that downgrading the fw might do the trick...obviously that didnt work.

When it says you need to wait, you need to wait!

Sometimes things can take a while. I'm no expert on this and maybe someone can offer a more comprehensive description but as far as I understand it basically what you have done is cut off the installation process of the software so it can't go any further than that screen because the software isn't on the phone.

I don't know how the Jailbreak process works but maybe you can rescue it by starting from the beginning. If not then you may have a dud phone I'm not sure. Other jailbreakers may be able to save you.

EDIT: In response to post 7 then. If its not jailbroken I would take it into Apple and tell them what happened.

I would LOVE to start from the beginning but itunes gives me an error saying the phone cant connect as well as every other program I've tried. It's not jailbroken so I suppose all I can do is take it to the apple store or let the battery die and see what I can do after that...the battery just takes FOREVER to run out

you can hope for the battery to drain, but i'd take it to the apple store regardless to see what they can do.

I dont think letting the battery run flat will do anything. Explain to them what happened about it freezing and how you tried to fix it. Just be honest. I have an iPhone but I have never downgraded the firmware/software and don't believe in Jailbreaking so my experience is quite limited but at least we have figured out where the problem occurred. As for the original problem, causing you to put it into recovery mode, I dont know.

If its not jailbroken and you are still with the correct carrier Apple should be ok with it.

Well, off to the apple store I go...well, as soon as they open that is. Thanks for helpin me out!

Actually...do you think an At&t store could help? apple store is 23 miles away while at&t is less that 5. Should I try at&t or just go right to apple?

AT&T will tell you to go to Apple.

Sigh, the same thing happened to me.

I have a iphone 1G, I had just run Quickpwn and everything had reached 100%. The screen first turned all white.. then the wheel (loading) started. The pinapple logo appeared and everything froze.

I tried powering of manually, and it came right back to the logo. Then i tried entering DFU mode with home +pwr etc. No response. I disconnected the phone and tried... Tried the same thing connected to both mac and windows (seperately of course)...

The only thing left to do is wait for the battery to quit... then restart and try getting it to respond again.

This seems like a very strange thing that doesn`t happen to many people...just a few. Can`t find anything about anyone not beinh able to turn the phone off / in dfu..

I checked and:

- usb drivers are ok.
- the osx 10.5 DFU issue is excluded (installed the fix)
- Quickpwn does not recognise the phone
- itunes does not recognise it

Waiting for the battery to drain..contacting apple store is not an issue...
