HELP.....
My iPhone seamlessly pairs and connects to my BMW iDrive system so I have full phone functionality through the cars controls and all my contacts. However....... if I play any music using the iPod app on the iPhone the bluetooth connection switches off on the iPhone. so... phone or music but not both..... seems silly!
anyone got any workarounds or know of any software patches?

just spoke to apple... they said that iphone not compatible with third party bluetooth devices... if they work thats a bonus..... as such the iphone gets confused when more than one function is being used at a time... ie the ipod and the bluetooth connection.... so it disables the bluetooth.

so... wait till apple come out with a compatible device or wait till some clever bod comes up with a software patch to educate the iphone!

that is odd - i have not heard of that particular problem before on the bmw sites i visit regularly. however, compatibility really depends on what bmw you have - there's fine print to bmw's announcement that the iphone is compatible with their vehicles. if you check out this site, you can find a list of all their vehicles that are compatible - it's mostly determined by production date since only their latest bluetooth modules seem to be compatible. but it's not 100% accurate - my X3's production date is just a few months before the cut-off listed, and it works perfectly with my iphone.

if your bluetooth module is too old and you really want to get it to work, you could look into replacing it (though i'm not sure how that works with idrive) - this site has great information on what's available and could advise you on what your options are...
