iPhone crashes high speed USB bus

Okay, After a LOT of trial and error testing, I've determined that my iPhone is crashing the highspeed driver for USB on my computer (AppleUSBEHCI) - but it doers NOT crash the low speed driver.

iPhone : vers 1.1.1. Dual 2.0 Ghz G5, running 10.4.10


The issue happens when:

1) The iPhone is plugged into a USB 2.0 port on the G5, or into a USB 2.0 powered hub. It will appear to connect for sync and charge normally.

2) Then, any handshake or other communication with ATT over the cell network (determined as I have an audio device very close to the iPhone, and can hear the "handshake nosies") will result in the "High Speed USB Bus" to crash - not only for the iPhone, but for any usb 2.0 device connected to any USB 2.0 port on the G5.

USB 1.1 devices are NOT affected - in fact, I can plug the iPhone into a USB 1.1. hub, and can sync/charge over USB 1.1, even though the USB 2.0 "bus" is crashed. Only a restart can bring back the USB 2.0 bus.

Sometimes I get a "low power USB warning" (in fact, two at once).
A theory is that the iPhone is drawing too much power during communication with the cell network, then disconnecting from USB in an ungraceful way, causing the crash.

Does anyone have any thoughts? Suggestions?

I have:

Restored the iPhone

Reinstalled Combo Update 10.4.10

Deleted and reinstalled iTunes and related mobile device extensions

What happened to me a couple times is that when I disconnect the iphone from the base (which is connected to the computer's USB port) it hangs the system

Are you using the Apple Dock or direct cable? If you have the dock, dont use it.

Direct cable - and using multiple cables as well to make sure it wasn't the cable.

USB speed Iphone sync

I have a similar problem:

I have tried under Windows XP SP2 and under Windows Vista SP1

If I set the USB port speed to 1.1 in the BIOS then it works syncing and everything.

Using fullspeed or hi-speed USB 2.0 I get an error message systematicly during the sync "Device expired" and the audio and vidéo are not synced

On another computer it works perfectly....

I have Iphone 16 Go. firmware 1.1.4
and motherboard Asus maximus extreme.


Any idea would be apriciated to be able to sync hi-speed 480 Mb/s with this new PC.

well my iphone just victimised my macbook as well.
the USB bus crashed on my macbook.
high AND low. the iphone would not even register as charging...
to top it off..... my bluetooth (built-in! running off the low-speed bus no-less)) died as well. it said it was unavailable.

i do not know what caused it.... yet...

after watching it closely during a restart, power came back to it at the exact moment i got the startup sound....
however.... calling the iphone while connected does not crash it.
what "handshakes" did you test myndex?
