Well this is annoying. I try to sync up the iPhone and during sync it crashes and restarts. iTunes freezes up until I disconnect the iPhone. The apple logo stays on the screen until I do a software reset (and then have to restore which takes hours). It's happened twice so far. I've got about 20 apps installed. Does this sound like a software problem or a hardware problem? Anyone else experience this? If so, what you have you done about it. I hate buggy x.0 software. It's obvious Apple rushed this out. The 1.0 software had no way near the number of problems this software does. Let's hope for 2.1 soon.

iPhone crashes on sync

I've had the same problem since the 2.0.1 update on 8/4. I've replaced the phone three times. I've done everything I can to narrow down the cause, but it's definitely a software issue. I've spent hours with Apple Care and taking my iMac and iPhone to Apple Genius. They had the same problem. The case has been escalated to the higher ups, but I haven't heard of any solution yet. If only I could be reimbursed for the countless hours I've spent messing with this phone. :( If I ever get a response from Apple, I'll post it.

I had exactly the same problem... Here is what I did to resolve (maybe it will help you):

I excluded "photos" from being synced and all worked fine... Apparantly, my issue was that I was syncing over 5GB of photos (yeah, I take lots of pics) from my PC and on top of that I was syncing from network drive (yes not the most intelligent thing to do)... when I excluded photos from being synced, it worked well... Interesting enough, when I added them back (on the local pc photos), it synced, but took a long time.

Maybe your problem is not exact, but some debug tip:

Try syncing one type of category at a time (i.e. sync contacts only, then add photos, etc...) see if that would work.. then you can pin point the problem....

The Apple Genius guys said I’ve done everything possible...and I have. I’ve been messing with it since 8/4/08. Not getting much else done.

I have a 16GB phone. What good is it if I can’t get more than 2GB of info on it? The phone is connected via USB cable directly to my iMac.

My main problem is syncing the apps. I can sync everything else with no problems whatsoever. I can also sync just applications and nothing else without crashing...most of the time (it won’t sync all apps, but it’s not consistent on which apps will or won’t sync or which ones cause it to crash).

Then, I can sync everything including most applications so I can at least use my phone and some of the apps I paid for. Sometimes I can even sync it again with updated apps and some new apps without a problem. But I’ve not been able to sync absolutely everything since the 2.0.1 software update. That was when all my problems started.

Unfortunately, once I have my phone the way I like (or thereabout), I can’t chose to sync just the information I know has changed or just the updated apps (it will delete the apps not chosen...dumb!).

I also don’t have any logical order to the backups. I was adding just a few apps a day, then backing up so I wouldn’t have to start all over again if I encountered a problem. But all of that work and time was wasted because each daily backup seemed to overwrite the previous day’s backup yet leave backups from a month ago.

I love the phone, but I’m also totally frustrated with it.
