I have an :apple: iPhone 3G, not unlocked.
Well, this morning I was listening to my iPhone in my car with my iTrip (a radio transmitter thing) and after about an hour the home button wasnt working... I clicked it once, no response. I clicked it 2 times and the iPod music thing came up. The home button still wasnt working. So I unplugged my iTrip, locked the iPhone and tried to see what happens... I could slide the silder, but when it got to the "passcode" entering thing, it wasnt working. The numbers were lighting up, but they weren't going in. The iPhone wouldnt turn off either... So I (stupidly) decided to press the Home and the Lock button at the same time... the screen went white, and now im stuck with a dead iPhone. Got any ideas?
Maybe some more info, dont know if it's useful, im stupid with these things:
iPhone 3G 8GB. Not unlocked. AT&T simcard.
Model No.: A1241 FCC ID: BCGA1241 IC ID 5796-A1241
Thanks

Yeah, its just a white screen. I cant turn it off. I can press the lock button tho and the screen goes black.

Try holding down the lock button for a few moments, and try to slide on the screen where you think the shutdown slider might appear. If it doesn't do anything after a few seconds, try holding down Home and Lock buttons until the phone shuts off.

If you can get it to shut off, may have a way to restore it.

Yeah, I tried the lock button thing. It wont turn off.
What's a DFU (yeah, I really am stupid). Anyways, im just going to try to restore. Thanks for the help ;p

DFU mode is simply getting the iPhone started up before it loads the OS (the software). Basically, your trying to turn on the iPhone without starting up the mobile OS.

Try following this guide http://www.iclarified.com/entry/index.php?enid=1034

If you can at least get it into DFU mode, you should be good. It might be a software or hardware problem, it might be as simple as restarting it, so I'm not sure.

iTunes would detect it in "Recovery Mode" and ask you to restore it.

I had a problem with my iphone today with the home button also. I had installed some new app updates and it was working fine until I went in to the phone app and it was stuck. I could not return to the home screen but the phone app was working fine. I tried to shut it off but it would not give me an option to turn it off while holding the standby button down. I finally had to hook it to my iMac and do a restore. It seems to be working fine now and it is restoring my data now.

You can always try a Hard Reset which should fix a frozen iPhone! Follow the instructions below:

Hard Reset:
1) Power iPhone on, if necessary.
2) Hold the Home and Sleep/Wake buttons for about 7 seconds, or until the screen turns black.
3) Your iPhone should reboot. If it doesn't don't worry, just hold the Sleep/Wake button for about 2 seconds.
