Earlier today, when fooling around with my iPhone at home, I noticed that it was picking up a new wireless network, called "UNC-1". This is odd because I live in the middle of the woods in rural Maine and have never detected any wireless networks besides our family "NETGEAR". I mentioned this to my Dad, who has an Acer laptop running Windows XP. The Acer was also able to see this new network and identified it as "computer to computer". My MacBook Pro was asleep in the other room, so the only two devices in the house currently on, and with wireless were the iPhone and the Acer laptop. I shut off the iPhone to see if perhaps UNC-1 was orginating from it. As soon as the iPhone turned off, the Acer lost the UNC-1 network. I haven't been able to make it happen again.

My guess is your being watched by someone. Having been in the Army for 25 years, I can tell you that a UNC-1 is a computer network that I have only seen in the Army, and while I worked at the Pentagon.
UNC stand for Underground Network Computer-1 The "1" stand for a unit #1.
I have only seen UNC maybe 10 times in my life, and all were times of top secret missions.

Remember, the Theremin was invented by a Russian spy. The same principles that allowed the Theremin to work also allowed the US embassy in Russia to be bugged by a passive microphone that would only work/transmit when irradiated with a 330MHz signal. Actually, my guess is that you are picking up someone's University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill network. A lot of computers on campus create a network (why they do this I have no clue) and they always say UNC-1. So my guess is that someone was visiting from out of town (actually I have an acquaintance who commutes to UNC from Maine, maybe you all live close together) and they were using their computer and you picked up their signal. No worries about the government trying to get into your network. I actually found this discussion while searching for how to connect my iphone to the UNC network so I can use the wireless connection while I'm at school.
