I went into At&T to buy an iPhone today, when i was there they told me. They have to check my credit. Now do they have to do this step. I thought I did this with iTunes on my Mac? So what is the deal here? Thanks

If you buy from apple there is no prescreening, AT&T does do prescreening at their store. Get it from apple if you don't want to be prescreened, that is what I did, took all of 10 minutes in the store, with 8 of it being me trying to figure out which case to buy along with it.

If you buy at at&t all you have to do when they bring this up is tell them it is a gift, they'll just sell you the phone with no more questions.

So the prescreening is not needed. They kept saying if I didn't I would brick the phone
