AT&T plans to announce new service plans customized specifically for Apple's iPhone but will not make such details public until June 29 -- the same day the device is due to launch in the United States -- an executive for the wireless carrier told USA Today.

WTF

Edit: They updated the article:
We will disclose before the 29th," he said, noting that customers will be able to show up at stores that day knowing how much they will be charged for both the Apple-developed hardware and AT&T’s cellular service plans. “It’s not going to be anything exotic," he added.
:)

im confused.. it says that in the title that appleinsider wrote, but no where in the article is the att exec quoted as saying thats the case.. he just said they will be released, but he never gave the date... where is appleinsider getting the info that it will be on the 29th??

if it is true, that SUCKSSSSSS and is ridiculous.. sure to piss some people off, like me

I'm expecting a week prior. Friday or Monday. I mean, people need some semblance of time to sort this all out and have a plan of attack. Have time to contact their old carrier, switch, and do whatever they need to do.
I don't buy this.

I didn't see that quote in the apple insider article, but the USA Today article from earlier says this:

There are other surprises in the works for June 29. In addition to launching the iPhone that day, Carter says AT&T also will announce new service plans for it.

That is a quote from the ATT executive in the article, and that sure sounds like he's saying the customized service plans will not be made public until June 29th. It's fairly blatently stated, I don't see how you can argue otherwise.

The title says it, and the bold print says it, but they didn't say it in the article. Weird, but one can only hope it's not true.

I'd like to see the quote, not an editors interpretation of the fact that its not already out.

I would be surprised if the details weren't announced the on the 29th. Seriously, think about it- if the data plan costs the same/more than at%t's current plans, people will get pissed and not buy the iPhone. If it's cheaper, no one is going to buy a phone until then.

I'm sure whatever's announced in regards to the plans, will be somewhat of a factor in deciding if ppl buy the phone or Not.

I really just want to know what the Activation Process will be like at the Apple Store.

THEY DO SAY IT OUTRIGHT IN THE ARTICLE....

look at my last post, the quote in the article says the customized plans will be released along side the iPhone on June 29th. the user who created the thread also put the quote in his first post. check it out.

hey palllllll, calm down...

people are saying they want a quote from the att guy... there isnt a quote saying that is the case, just the article saying its the 29th, but there isnt a word for word quote from the att exec. thats where the confusion is... geeze

That means the data plans are outrageously expensive, but they're waiting until the last minute so all the morons waiting in line all day either don't know about the plan prices until they sign the contract, or decide that they might as well buy the stupid thing since they spent all week camping out

what makes me nervous is that he says be prepared for them to be expensive... what exec says "expect to pay more"... if they were reasonably priced then he would say that people will be happy to see or something like that... as long as its not required like a lot of people are claiming, i could care less... comon apple, FILL US IN ALREADY!

I concur. This only means apple/att wants to gouge folks that are too lazy/stupid to actually want *details* about their plans. I hope this 'strategy' backfires immensely.

They updated the article,
