I just looked at the iPhone of a friend of mine. It appears to be dead, dead, dead.
Tried the hold/home reset. Tried to put it into restore mode. No response. Isn't even recognized when hooked up to the computer. He says he tried hooking it up to the wall overnight, twice - no effect.
He also says that before it died like this, he was getting strange sounds from the speakers - and strange effects on the screen.
My best guess is a logic board failure of some sort. Any other ideas any of you can offer? He's three hours from the nearest Apple store, so - if you can save a drive, it would be good.
