I am just a lowly technology blogger at the moment, but more and more I think I should be utilizing my talents and considerable free time by learning how to code.

I want to know, if anyone has any experience of this, how long it would take me to work my way up through learning to program until I am capable of developing on the iPhone.

I'm pretty intelligent, could spend between 1-2 hours a day on this, and any more info you need to help me answer this I will be happy to provide...

I am not naive enough to think I will be amazing from the get-go, but if I don't start now, then I may never... Thanks in advance!

If you go to iTunes U, and do a search:

Stanford University has posted a course on how to become an iPhone app developer. Its free. They actually offered this course on their campus, and have made it available on iTunes U.

Soooo, off you go, and Good Luck!!

I've been watching the podcasts as well, but I am with the OP, how long would it take to learn how to develop legit?

Depends on dedication, learning ability etc..

With the iPhone 3.0 SDK there is a mini-lesson where you actually make an application. Following this simple instruction, one can make an app in less then 20 minutes. You could memorize how to do so in an hour or so.

Again it depends on ability to learn and willingness.

I myself am still studying on how to do more and more with iPhone apps. I would say if you spent a few hours a day you could learn enough to make some basic apps in a months time.
