Hi,

yesterday evening i wanted to charge my iPhone 3GS using an external battery (Mobile Power Station). Soon after connecting the battery my iPhone shutted down. I was unable to restart it, even while connected to my computer. Itunes didn't even recognize my iPhone.

I used recovery mode, which seemed to help, because iTunes recognized it, but when I wanted to restore an error (#1604) popped up. Because the phone had become extremely warm I decided to leave it for a few hours.

After a few hours I returned, but the iPhone still didn't work. Now it's even impossible to start in recovery mode, iTunes simply doesn't recognize it. It seems that the external battery has killed my phones hardware. Or is their still a solution for this problem?

I had the same problem with a generic external battery from amazon.com. I was unable to restore even in DFU mode. I made an apt. to the genius bar and told them what happened and they were as confused as I was. He just switched it out with a white box replacement and sent me on my way. I chunked the battery and left a bad review on amazon. The phone got so hot after an hour with the external battery it burned my hand. Good luck and let us know what the Apple Genius says and your outcome.
