iPhone "Discoveries" Erasing E-mails faster

Probably some of you guys already figured this out by now, but i was playing with my iPhone and out of the sudden, while checking the e-mails, I realized that instead of pressing the "Edit" button on the top right corner to delete the messages and suddenly find yourself with no clue of which e-mails you have read and which ones you have not... You simply run your finger across the message from left to right and it brings the "Delete" option to that specific message. I wish there was a way to check for several messages at a time, but I guess this simple "Discovery" may help us out a bit while we wait for some new updates!!

Please feel free to post more new discoveries you may find on your iPhones.

I hope this is helpful to anyone of you iPhone users out there.

It took you 2 seconds to move your thumb back across? Do you have extreme arthritis or something? Took me 1/2 a second tops.

He didn't say you had to comply. He was just simply noting that it could be done in both directions. Why do some people have to hate all the time on these message boards?

What we need is a way to delete multiple messages at once, or all.. in both email and SMS.

Actually, you don't need to run your finger across the entire line... just run it across the blue "time" at the far right.

I am glad that this, even though it was not a big discovery, evidently not a new one... It helped one or two of you guys.

I am still in the process of finding some new tweaks and tricks on my iPhone.

In most of the settings menus you can go back to the previous selection screen by placing your finger on the top right of the screen and moving your finger from top right to bottom left.

Ie. Go to settings...general...network and try placing your finger on the top right and moving it from top right to bottom left w/o pressing too hard because it seems to register that as a scrolling moving.

Does this work for you guys?

I'd like to know how to avoid downloading 3,000 emails to my Phone when I get it set up. It's happened to me before. Or - an easy way of deleting them en masse.

I'm having a similar issue. I have 4000+ e-mails in my gmail, and when I delete all the e-mails on my iPhone, as slow as it takes, it just re-downloads 25 more e-mails.
Under preferences, you can't stop it from doing that. I'd rather it just download new ones or show nothing, rather than retrieve old ones if there's less than 25 e-mails in there. Because of this, I always have a 50-54 icon over my e-mails app indicating "new" mail.

I'm having a similar issue. I have 4000+ e-mails in my gmail, and when I delete all the e-mails on my iPhone, as slow as it takes, it just re-downloads 25 more e-mails.

Lets see if you have not tried this just yet...
Go to your gmail account, and in the "Settings" (top right corner) you will find "Forwarding and POP".
Now... make sure you check on: "Enable POP only for mail that arrives from now on".

This shall make your iphone only download the e-mails that you receive from the moment you do it to the future. This should stop the downloading of your 4000 + emails
