I upgraded to a 3G a few weeks ago. None of the apps I downloaded/purchased before that time are recognizing that I am the owner.

I don't know how it happened, but when I'm in the App Store (in iTunes), I can see that I am logged in under my original account (network23@mac.com), but I get a message in the main window saying "Rick (rick@gmail.com) has no updates currently available. To check for updates for another account, sign in with that account."

What? I'm NOT signed in as rick@gmail.com. Somehow it appears that two accounts are being confused. How do I fix this, and where?

In iTunes under store, de-authorize your computer. Make sure you are logged into the account that you want to use. The go back in the store and Authorize your computer again. Sync iPhone and all should be fixed.

Good Luck

Thanks. I tried that. I found an Apple Support doc that has several things to try under the general "Troubleshooting Apps" title. One of the first was the deauthorize/authorize trick. It didn't work.

Also, why aren't I getting this option?

According to this post, if I have apps that are registered under someone else, I should get the option to "reassign" them, right?

I recommend the you contact the iTunes store using this link and in great detail, explain your situation. Make sure that you iTunes is set up on the CURRENT account that you want to use and authorized. They are going to probably have to send your apps again. Make sure you include the date range that you purchased apps under the other account.

Highly recommend to others that you make sure the account you set up is the one you want to use for life. The store is getting more strict on reissue of crashed hard drives and lost or wrong accounts. Always back up and always use the same account...just change passwords and credit cards if something changes. Keep the user name...it ties ALLLLL of your purchases to you.
