I was playing Doom on the arcade on my 360 and thought of an idea on how controls could work on the iPhone.

Pretty simple, you have a slider on the right which you can move up and down (it'll revert to neutral), and you can move left and right to turn around. The left controls include weapon select (the dark spheres, zooms when you scroll through them), shoot and move.

Control bars will fade if no touch is detected (after a few seconds) and instantly back when you put your fingers back on. :D

Cool idea. However I think most games have the navigation on the left.

Have you tried NES on the iPhone yet? It works ok if you have vinyl overlay for tactile feedback of buttons.

For doom, I would have it so that there is a + pad on the left (for forward, back, side step), weapons on top highly transparent, and press the screen to shoot (similar to how the NES game Duckhunt works on the iPhone).

Otherwise it will be really sweet if someone make a external game pad that holds the iPhone and connects to the dock connector.
