iPhone Email problem

Hi there,

I have a iphone 3G, using 3 email a/c on it.

one is @mac.com, the other two is my companies'

The problem I am facing is, when I get email on my @mac.com a/c, the phone will "ding" and notify me I got a new email.

But when the emails are sent to my companies', there'll be no notification at all, I need to go to the inbox every five minutes to check whether there's any mails...it seems silly...

I hope someone can help me out with this.

Check the Fetch New Data setting in Settings. If it is set to manual, it will not fetch data from your company's server therefore not notifying you that you have new mail. If you need to check your email every 5 minutes then set it to every 15 minutes. Unfortunately there is no every 5 minutes setting.

I have two IMAP accounts and one Mobile Me (formerly .Mac) account, the same setup as you. I get notification from all three accounts. Every 15 minutes from my IMAP accounts and right away from my Mobile Me account.

The reason you're having this issue is because only MobileMe accounts, and Exchange accounts offer what's called "push" email. As soon as you get email to either of these, your phone will receive the email and will ding.

With IMAP, push is not supported. As the other poster indicated, you can tell your phone to check every 15 minutes for email.

In short, push email brings the email to your phone without your phone having to do anything. IMAP needs to be pulled from the server periodically.

Hi thanks for replying me!

I tried to do that and it works for the first day, but this morning when I got up, I got no email notice on my iphone "mail" icon, but when I walked to the living room and checked my macbook, I got 3 new mails??

Is that mean if I don't turn off my macbook, and they got the 3 new mails, it won't appear on my iphone?

No, it just means that it was time for the Mail app to check for mail. It does this depending on the setting you put in according to my first post on this thread.
