Other iPhone esim - no physical sim?

So I am confused on something and figure I am just missing it.

On the new X is the sims BOTH e-sims? Or is there still at least one physical sim spot? I am going to buy mine unlocked and want to put in one physical sim, and then add one e-sim later after the update. I just want to clarify that is possible.
