Wait, I’m confused here. They’re saying a camera button, but this is already on the iPhone 15. They replaced the switch with an “action button” that could be used to do anything through a software setting. Are they saying Apple is going to add another action button?

I really like the leak saying it’s going to be on September 10. That’s like saying the new iPhone is going to be called the iPhone 16 and it’s going to be the greatest iPhone ever… Are they making up leaks with ChatGPT at this point because Apple has everything locked down?

Action button right now is in a position that obstructs the camera view if used as a shutter button.

Capture button is new, on the same side as power button.

You can LOOK at a switch, or even feel it, to know it's position. Apple's anti-feedback obsession continues.
Weirdly enough, after triggering many inadvertent silent mode reversal, I find the silent switch less appealing than action button. Granted, I was using iPhone XS Max but still.
I agree that Apple’s anti-feedback obsession continues, but I feel like the action button might not be THAT bad as I‘d imagined prior, and I don’t miss the switch as much. Now I use it to quickly trigger built in camera app Rather than fumbling around Lock Screen button, control center toggle or worse, search it in App Library. Maybe iPad should also have an action button of sort.
With that being said, the Older round switch was definitely better. Felt better and worked better.

The volume buttons are already a shutter button when the camera app is activated.

The volume buttons have the same problem as the Action button. You have to use a pincer grip to avoid your fingers covering the camera, especially when using the ultrawide lens.

Capactive Capture button on the opposite site is much more natural and allows you to swipe to change lenses, for example.

My guess is that the the difference between the new "shutter button" and the action button (and volume buttons to take a photo) is that it will be faster, as in you can already take a photo before the display is even showing the camera app and possibly there will be something feeling like (through software) the shutter button of a DSLR, where a soft press does the auto-focussing.

They should rebrand the iPhone to iCamera. Then add all the action buttons and 5 cm camera bumps. It already looks like a compact camera more than a phone. Then they could launch new product called Apple Phone which would actually be normal smartphone.

Dedicated camera shutter button will have feedback, two stage press like on an actual camera (half press to focus and full press to shoot), long press to open the camera, along with rumoured swipe right to zoom in/left to zoom out etc.

Can see this causing a few of the cheap case manufacturers to produce a bad experience.

I'm already holding the phone that way so I can see what the camera is capturing, though. I don't think I've ever put my fingers over the lens, because I know where the lens is and where my fingers are. But I can see how some might have a different experience.

“Fun fact: i made the ‘leaked’ Apple Event invite in less than 10 minutes using figma and an Ai generated texture and i sent it to the leaker just because i was bored,” Lore wrote Tuesday on X.
Yep, CultofMac updated with this info.
