iPhone Family Plan rates?

Ok you currently have the smallest individual plan of 450 min for $39.99 and you have $50 of extra on top of that account ($30 data +$20 unlimited text) This gives you a grand total of $90+$10ish taxes and fees so we call it a 100 even
If you want to add another line to that first you must up your plan to a 550 min family plan of $59.99 a month and I am going to assume you brother will want to text as well so you might as well put on the $30 unlimited text family plan. After that you have to add in the $30 a month for you data plan. I am going to assume you brother is getting an iPhone so that would be another $30 a month data plan.
All this brings you to a grand total of
$59.99 service

That's strange how you don't have to pay an extra $30 per month for the unlimited text for the extra line, but you have to pay an extra $30 for data.
If you go to collage check and you could have a 15 percent discount on service. That would bring you down to ~150 a month for 2 iphones which would be a good deal imo.

I looked into doing this with the girlfriend and realized that the savings of adding an extra line with an iPhone is basically NOTHING.
She couldn't justify switching from the Google phone/TMobile where she pays $50 a month for unlimited EVERYTHING, to AT&T and the iPhone where she would have to pay double that for the absolute minimum texts/minutes. Especially considering she would then experience a ridiculous amount of dropped calls here in Colorado. Not to mention AT&T constantly has the worst customer service out of all the big carriers in the U.S. in every single poll I have seen.
AT&T is a complete rip off. And I cannot wait until my plan is up. Hopefully the iPhone will be on another carrier by then, because it's just not worth suffering with AT&T to have it.

Not really once you know how text messaging works. Text messaging cost a phone company near $0. That $30 is almost 100% pure profit to them. Data on the hand cost them some money to maintain and expand the network on as it does suck up limited amount of bandwidth.
Now why text messaging cost the cell companies next to nothing is it is piggybacking system that your phone uses to tell the towers were it is and that it has signal. So it is nothing extra for them to really have to to do expand it. hell SMS started out because the military was looking for a way to use GPS to send messages like that around. SMS on the cell phones has not really changed since 1993 when it was first released. It cost them next to nothing.
I was actually considering doing this, except that I'm the little brother. My older brother has the iPhone 3GS, and just thought about opening up another line and I was going to get an iPhone on it. It does seem that there is hardly any savings at all? Especially if you don't pay for texts and just use an app for it instead? Is there really any true benefit to doing this??
Also, my brother and I go to separate Universities, would we be able to combine both be able to combine our education discounts or would only one apply?

Only one discount would apply to the thing and you will want what ever is greater.
Family plan are good if you have a use for them.
I didn't know about the student discount. My husband and I will be switching and getting 2 iphones very soon. It should have been tomorrow but the stupid IRS is running behind..UGH but what do I need to verify, just a student id?

it looks like only certain colleges/businesses are approved. Yours may be different than mine, and it also depends on the area code where it'll be used the most. I live in Monroe, Mi but go to school in Toledo, OH. I tried both area codes and there was a dollar and some change difference.
