I have an iPhone X. I've read through many articles and reviews about the 2017 iPhones - I'm not sure where I read it, but I've seen that, apparently, wireless charging can be upgraded by Apple to be "fast wireless charging" through a software update at a later time. Is this legitimate? Has Apple gone on record in saying this, or is it a misunderstanding/miscommunication from certain writers?

Has anyone else read/heard anything? I'm really interested in this, as the slow wireless charging is the biggest issue holding me back from buying wireless chargers for my new X. Even though wireless charging is still a nice and convenient feature at this point, I don't feel the push to invest in wireless chargers when an iPad brick (or USB-C) charges iPhones significantly faster.

Apple will introduce a "faster" wireless charging in a future software update. But it won't really be much faster. 7.5 over the current 5 it is now.

It was supposed to be with 11.1, but I am not sure if it did.

I doubt they bring anything wirelessly in the near future for fast charging, they are probably worried about people leaving the phone on there and frying the battery for 2 days...lol

Apple is always late to the dance with certain things!

A wired fast charger out of the box would have been nice but whatever at this point.

I have the morphie wireless charger for my X which is use when I go to bed, that's a lil faster than the ridiculous brick and lightning cable that takes forever to charge, so I just leave it over night.

But for day time use and when I need some quick juice, I just last night went to apple and bought a USB-C 29W power adapter ($49) and a USB-C to lightning cable ($25). Pricey but I don't like using non apple products for charging my iPhones. Either way the brick isn't that big, and I would only really charge it in my office during the course of the day or evening.

For me it's about the convenience, if they do release a fast wireless charger I would grab it as I honestly do like just dropping my phone on a base and not having to finagle with wires and what not.

lol the money I spend on this companies products is ridiculous.

Ok, so it will be somewhat faster but it won't be on par with the wireless charging speed other phones can get (e.g. Samsung Galaxy/Note, etc.)? Can I ask where you saw/read that?

UPDATE: I was just listening to the Connected podcast and they mentioned what you wrote (Apple said, at some point, it will update the phones to charge at 7.5 watts). So it is a waiting game. It still sounds like this won't be as fast as other phones' fast-charging capabilities.
