Can someone confirm to me, do you have too have an AT&T contact to activate the features on the iPhone, or can you use everything besides the phone function without an AT&T account?

Has to be activated to do anything but make an emergency call.

Would like to know as well, I am considering buying one and using it as an iPod.

No you have to have an active service account with at&t in order to do anything on the unit. If i wanted an ipod would hold off till the 6th gen ones come out.
