Iphone FTP Connection

Hey im having trouble connecting my iphone via ftp so i could upload some nes roms? i tried following the tutorials on utube, but have no luck, every time i try to connect via ftp winscp, i keep getting an error, im punching in my ip right , and the user name root : alpine, does the wifi connection have to be a non password lock wireless connection.? and also what port should i have it at?
