Over at TouchArcade.com we've spent a lot of time playing and reviewing iPhone games. Here are a few of our favorites that we've reviewed:

PapiJump [Free] - deceptively simple, but surprisingly addictive. Bounce "Mr. Papi" higher and higher. It doesn't make sense, even after you play it... but trying to get the high score will keep you coming back. Oh, and it's free.

Toy Bot Diaries [$3.99] - a game we consider one of the first true iPhone games. It's an original and immersive platform game in which you overcome physics-based obstacles. (pictured above)

Sumo [$2.99] - an original and addictive strategy game. Card players (Hearts, Bridge, etc...), in particular, will likely take to this game. Online person-to-person play coming in a future update.

Galcon [$9.99] - a fast-paced arcade strategy game set in space that provides quality strategy gameplay in a form that can be enjoyed in two or three minute pick-up sessions.

Frotz [Free] - fans of interactive fiction (Zork, for example) will enjoy this Z-machine interpreter that gives you access to hundreds of titles.

Meanwhile, there have been several announcements and videos of upcoming iPhone games. Some of the more notable include: Myst, Flick Sports Bowling, Real Racing, Clusterball 2, Light Bikes.

Toy Bot Diaries is so cool. Its probably my favorite game to show people. The robot is very likable.

I'm waiting for Sonic the Hedgehog!

Just wanted to pitch it and add my vote for Dizzy Bee. It looks and play like a really polished commercial title. I'm looking forward for more games from Igloo Games.

Consider me correctimified! ;) Can't argue with your taste in games.

These lists are actually really useful. Even after a month, the list of games takes painfully long to scroll through on an iPhone; imagine what it'll be like in a year.

What's clearly needed is a new App Store app that works a la BoxOffice - highlighting the best apps. The AppStore's rankings/reviews are sadly unreliable, and Apple is clearly demented in allowing some of the apps they allow - the "screening" process is unfathomable. Some sort of human-filtered "best of" app would definitely be useful.

Definitely! - just as long as it's done on the basis of the quality of the game; and not simply giving big name developers the headlines and putting small developers in the bargain bin.

The obvious thing to do is make the Games category on the iPhone hierarchical, as it is in iTunes. Even so, there are 12 pages of puzzle apps on store.

I've been playing Dizzy Bee FREE and it is really well done for the iPhone

Not sure about these games yet, but my favorite iPhone game right now is vay, which has had some good updates since its release. Wish there were more inthat Genre, but so far its the only one of its kind so far.

On a side note, still waiting for the release of the original sim city on the iPhone as it seems to get launched for many portables. :D

apples texas hold em has had the most game time for me. Add internet mulitiplayer and its golden.

how can you forget Vay? Amazing port of a classic RPG to the iPhone/iPod Touch platform. Cheap too. IMHO it's the best!

EDIT: messed up the name, it's Vay.
