I'm on my 4th iPhone and all for the same reason, piss poor battery life. My last phone got 45min. usage and 5hr. standby at about 30% battery remaining. All three would get good battery life once in a while but very rarely. So I decided to send it into to Apple this time to see if they could fix it or get a phone from a different batch. The loaner they sent me was awesome, almost wanted to keep it. It confirmed for that I am not crazy and I'm not expecting too much. One thing all three phones had it common is they will be at a full charge at night and will be completely dead in the morning. The new one they sent me back seemed like a good one, charged it fully when I got it at around 4PM, went to bed at 11:30pm and was dead in the morning. When I went to bed the battery indicator still hadn't budged from full. Another thing they have in common is they all get very warm and start to drain very fast. All of my settings are turned down or off. I've been reading the forums for some time and so I am familiar with what settings will drain the battery faster. Is anyone else experiencing these issues and/or know how I can fix this, because obviously it's not the phone.

No one elses phone gets really hot some times and then the battery drains quite quickly?

Same problem for me. I'm on my 3rd iPhone for the same reason. 2 months after my first one, the battery overheated and died. Took it in, got it replaced.
Thought I had a fluke defect. Then exactly 2 months later, my second phone started heating up again. Took it in again and they gave me my third one. 4 months later and all is well. One thing they thought it might be shorting out the battery is using it with a car charger. I rarely charge it in my car anymore but I will only if the battery is completely drained or at less than 10%. I also try not to keep it plugged into my computer with the USB cable unless I am syncing so it's not constantly charging the battery when it doesn't need it. So far, this seems to have made a difference for me. I just hope my 3rd iphone will last until the gen 2 iphone.

This may seem like an odd question but are you leaving the phone docked at night? I find that when I leave my phone docked it sucks the juice.
