I had my BlackBerry stolen... so I'm trying to make lemonade out of the situation.

I live in Canada. I want to get an iPhone and unlock it but it's expected that the new iPhone will be out in a month.

Few Questions:

1. How easy is it to unlock?
2. What doesn't work if it's an unlocked phone?
2. If a 3G iPhone does come out, do you get 3G in Canada under Rogers?

1. current iphone - very easy
no one knows about the 3g iphone

2. visual voicemail, there are fixes for everything else

3. no idea, sorry, in the UK

I believe that Rogers 3G is HSDPA, so in theory, it would be compatible with the iPhone.
I'm not sure what coverage is like there, though, and the unlocking process will be new and different, so it might be awhile.

The current model is very easy to unlock, can be done in 5 minutes.
Unlocked phones dont have the visual voicemail and some experience problems with the youtube application and locate me feature in maps.
When the 3G version comes out it might be possible to unlock and run on Rogers but with the crazy data prices up there would you want to?
The iphone uses alot of data in general compared to other cellphones.

I got my iphone off ebay unlocked with lots of extra stuff and it only cost me an extra $65 with out the drive and the rubber glove treatment at the border. I looked at it this way. I paid with my visa and if I didn't get what I ordered I would have recourse.
