Does anyone know if we will be able to do one video conversion to h.264 that will run on both aTV and the iPhone?

Looking to leverage that new turbo.264 stick on my iMac G5 to start converting my DVD collection over for use on the AppleTV. Would be nice if I only needed to do each once and have the iPhone covered as well.

I don't have an answer for you, but I really hope that at some point we get to play the same files on AppleTV, iPhone, and iPod. There was an article a while ago pointing out that this could be done through on-the-fly transcoding, so if you had a 2 GB file @ 720p, you could sync it to iPhone and iTunes would adjust it so that you ended up with a smaller file using iPhone's screen resolution. I don't pretend to be a video expert, but the article (from Andy Lindsay, I think) explained how it could be solved so that the process wouldn't be slow or intensive.

as far as i am concerend

when they address this situation it will be the true digital convergence. does science fiction inspire technology or the other way around? iphone reminds me of a tricorder.
