iphone hardware changes

i was thinkin about opening up my first gen iphone to change the radios to cdma and rewrite the firmware...for FUN! hahhahaha does anyone have any comments or suggestions on this task.

i wouldnt call it impossible just take the hardware out of a unlocked cdma phone, and fuse them together a poop load of code and new firmware it could happen.

No, it couldn't. You'd have to have identical hardware minus the GSM chip. You'd have to figure out how to reconnect the battery, screen, camera, microphone, and speaker terminals to this new PCB (you'd have to MAKE new connectors).

And the firmware? Don't get me started.

No, it couldn't! I just told you all of the reasons that it is, in fact, impossible without being completely reengineered from scratch. You'd have to print your own board, get your own chips, and do the soldering yourself for it to ever happen.

Well, that's a different story!

Okay, you'll need to design a PCB that can take an ARM processor and a standard CDMA chip. Look through a repository of CDMA chips and find a small one, find the pinnage, and plan your board around it. You'll need a RAM chip and room for NAND flash. All the other little things (camera, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi) can certainly be secondary.

If you want easy compatibility, take a look at how the iPhone's battery is pinned and copy that. Look at the screen's connector and those of the mic and speaker, too.

You'll probably be afforded a little more room with the lack of a need to incorporate a SIM tray, and you'll NEED it.
