iPhone headphones controls dont work

I have a 3G iphone and some iphone headphones with the mic. So i plug the headphones in and they don't work to change the song or other music controls. I also cant answer calls. I think its a problem with my phone jack. Is tehre any thing i can do do fix it?

If you know someone that also has an iPhone, you could check your headphones on their iPhone, and their headphones on your iPhone, to figure out what is broken.

I tried it on a different iphone and the headphones work so i guess its my 3mm jack. Is there any way of fixing this? Is it teh jack it self or could it be software problem?
