Hey guys, long time reader - first time poster. Came up with this idea recently and decided to do a mock up of it to see what it'd look like. Thought you guys might be interested in what I came up with. :)

A few more images on my site too.

I wonder if we'll see things like this when the SDK is released!

Very cool, never really seen the point of connecting up a washing machine though unless ya had a robot to take the stuff out after...

Love the concept designs, very impressive. Are you a fan of Philips electronics perhaps?

I don't really get the point of such an app.
  • For a washing machine you load it and put it on. If you want it to come on later, you set the delay start.
  • For heating, you are generally come home about the same time every day, so you set the timers.
  • For cooking you set the start time and end time on the cooker
  • For lights, flip the fecking switch when you get in the door.
  • etc

Pressing a couple of buttons on the machine itself seems easier to me than having to dig out your phone and flick through the menu to do it. You will be there loading/unloading it anyway.

While not as complicated as controlling a washing machine, I have a number of lights on X10 controllers and I think putting together a nice X10 remote app for the iPhone would be a great idea. Those mockups look very nice!

Hey guys. Thanks for the feedbackl!

I don't think a washing machine will ever really take off, but the the reason I came up with it is because I always forget to put my washing on, and only ever remember at odd times, like when I'm about to go to work. With this, I could load the wash, and then turn it on about an hour before I come home, so the washing's not sitting wet and getting smelly all day. :)

Regarding Philips, I've been very impressed with some of their new design concepts, and though it'd be fitting since it might be something they'd actually do! :)
