Hi All,

I use my iPhone 8 operating under iOS 11.0.2 with my late 2016 MBP15 10.13 and early 2014 MBA both using Mac OS 10.13

On the MBA, the hotspot is rapidly visible, at the top of list of ISPs and above the line. On the MBP, in order to get the hotspot to show up I have to first navigate to personal hotspot on the iPhone. Then, when it appears on the list of SSIDs it is below the line and way down the list of SSIDs.

What accounts for the difference in behavior of the hotspot between MBA and MBP? How do I get the MBP to behave more like the MBA when finding the hotspot?

hi

i have noticed this as well, but the behavior is on my MacBook Air.

here are the two things that have changed:
1 a Hotspot that has been created on my iPhone (6s running iOS 11.02) doesn't appear above the rest of all other possible WiFi connections. it appears among the list of them.
however, pls see #2 below:
2 however, a 2nd more dangerous change is that: my phone's Hotspot used to be identified as a Hotspot from the "name" i have given to my iPhone. in the list of Hotspots that do appear, it is given a generic name of simply "iPhone". which i thought was definitely somebody else's Hotspot so i didn't want to click on it. but i determined that in fact that Hotspot identified only as iPhone was in fact my own named Hotspot.

so i think there is an identification name issue bug.

Hi N,

This is exactly what I am seeing. On my MBA, I get a line item called "iPhone" under the section called Personal Hotspots. This is what I think is considered to be correct behavior.

On my 2016 MBP15, "iPhone" appears in the list of possible SSIDs, but is not a selection in an area called "Personal Hotspots". More importantly, in order to have the iPhone appear as an SSID at all, I have to first open Personal Hotspots on the iPhone--which is PITA but I can live with it as a work around.

Just wish I understood what triggers the difference in behaviors between the MBA and MBP.
