Alright, first off sorry if this has already been established, I'm just trying to help.

I just called Rogers and the sales rep informed me that they WILL in fact carry the iPhone. Moreso, he informed me they will recieve it at the same time it is released throughout NORTH AMERICA, aka June 29.

I don't know if this helps anybody, I just felt like I should let some know...

Thanks

This is definitely useful. I was hoping for a simultaneous Canadian release and hope it's true, though sales representatives seem to rarely know this stuff, e.g. Cingular reps saying the iPhone wasn't coming out anymore.

If I could buy an iPhone from Rogers on the 29th, it would be amazing. But I'm very skeptical this is true. First of all apple.ca still has no mention of the iPhone anywhere. Secondly, just like the at&t ad campaign that is going on in the US, Rogers would want an ad campaign before the launch to let people know that they will be able to purchase the device. A surprise launch doesn't make much sense from a business perspective.

Very doubtful, but if it's true, it would be amazing because my contract with Fido ends on the 28th! But yeah, no mention of the iPhone on the apple.com/ca site and no iPhone advertising/commercials in Canada so far.

Also, the cell phone industry in Canada is so crippled.. There's no GSM competitor to Rogers so they can charge whatever they want. The data plans are absolutely ridiculouse compared to what you guys get in the States and the standard contract length is 3 years! Hopefully there will be a major shakeup here before the iPhone relase :(

i've seen the ads on tv here, but it likely was a US station however i dont remember

I'd be surprised if there was a simultaneous release in Canada. I remember when the iTunes integrated Motorola Rokr came out; there was a fairly large ad campaign here by Rogers for it. You'd think that the same thing would happen for the iPhone, but as of yet, nothing.

There's really no reason not to release it in Canada as well, but unless they announce it at WWDC I doubt it's being released here simultaneously.

I've posted this bit of info many times on these forums before, but my friend that works at Rogers (in cell phones) has still said that it'll be out before Christmas in Canada, end of summer at the earliest.
And to respond to the post about data plans, Rogers is working on making it cheaper. They've recent launched (or at about to) HSDPA service or something like that (Rogers Vision I think it's called) with access to all kinds of media and whatnot... as much as I hate them, they're at least moving in that direction

I can verify this somewhat, at least that the Canadian launch will NOT coincide with the US. My brother-in-law is a Rogers store manager in Toronto, and he told me yesterday that it'll be several months before the Canadian release. Besides, if any company besides Apple and at&t was part of this impending juggernaut, don't you think they'd be shouting it to the hills by now?

There hasn't been any POS buzz either (staff prep, signage, or in-store presence), which would be happening around now, dontcha think?

BTW, my Treo just died, which would be perfect timing for an iPhone upgrade, so I'm hoping anyway...

I was speaking with a roger's rep who had me on hold for a few minutes after I asked him, and came back to tell me the known release dates and implied that the iPhone would be released in Canada after Asia.

The million dollar question is this:

The iPhone has a SIM slot - if one was bought in the US (and presumably, unlocked versions will be coming out inevitably if the US AT&T one can't be used on the Rogers AT&T network), and I inserted a roger's SIM - I don't see any reason why it wouldn't work. Sure the voicemail wouldn't, and maybe not the edge browsing, but the 11b/g and regular calling should...

Any thoughts?

I just hope they have family plans...
