Hi guys i got the iphone 2 weeks ago and i was wondering if theres insurance for the iphone. like complete insurance, such as if i lose the iphone the insurance will cover me and give me a new one or somthing. Thanks guys

The best option out there now is going with your homeowners insurance. I have State Farm and they're covering my iPhone under a "Personal Articles Policy". This policy covers my phone for a little under $10 per year with no deductible. The policy covers ANYTHING that happens to it.:)

If you have renters insurance, this amount may be higher. I have state farm and I will be paying $61/yr to have my iPhone insured under a personal articles policy.

My homeowner's carrier won't cover it. I'm seriously considering changing homeowner's insurance companies so my wife and I will have our iPhones covered.

I'm also waiting for Safeware to determine whether they'll be offering coverage or not.

state farm won't cover my iphone. what other insurance companys are there?

Some of the guys above say State Farm will cover it. If I were you, I'd ask them nicely, through PM for details on their policy, and present that information to your State Farm agent.

just to note that AT&T will NOT cover your iPhone with insurance, unlike other mobile phones. in case someone didn't already know this.

what about squaretrade accidental dammage coverage?

I have State Farm for my homeowners. Do you think it is better to just insure it thru them than getting the Apple Care?

Absolutely. Apple Care only covers manufacturer related defects. Apple Care does NOT cover accidental damage, losing the phone, dropping in toilet, etc.

i was thinking about squaretrade, except they are $150 for 3 years and a $50 deductible for accidental. they do promise a 5 day turnaround. regular warranty coverage is $60 for 3 years. i think that's probably too much for me.

Just a side note. It may not be worth putting the phone under your home owners insurance because if you ever make a claim against your policy your rates will go up drastically. There is a rule of thumb that unless your claim is for a significant amount of money often it will cost you more to make a claim in the long run. Don't forget insurance companies share this info...

Actually, that's not true unless you have a history of making claims regularly. In the past I've had to use my Liberty Mutual personal articles policy to replace camera equipment and didn't have my rates go up whatsoever. Now if you had 2 or 3 claims over a 2-3 year period, that's a different story. Even if one carrier raised your rates, you can always easily switch homeowners insurance to a different carrier.

Don't abuse the system and you will be fine. I sleep much better knowing my wife and my iPhones are covered 100% whether they're lost, stolen, broken, or get dropped in a lake...with no deductible to pay.

The personal articles policy is seperate from your home policy, so unless you're a repeat offender, it should NOT affect your rates.

I wouldn't say to insure I-phone directly, but that you need to insure a "600 dollar PDA." That is how my policy is written up, and my replacement is cash-value with no deductable.

I too, have renters insurance, FYI.

I hope the greedy (#*$heads don't (#*$ this up for us honest-@*#$heads. It's a good deal from State Farm, I hope it sticks around.

My iPhone is insured through a stand alone State Farm PAP (Personal Articles Policy) I do not have anything else insured with them.

Many agents are apparently telling people that they have to have homeowners---untrue! It may just be a way of trying to sell some homeowners coverage!! (maybe. . .)

At any rate from doing some research apparently the coverage abilities vary from state to state. I live in Alabama and they covered mine--althought they didn't know anything about it and had to call their underwriter to find out.

I'm covered against any and all things that could happen (except the the old faithful Acts of God and Pestilence) for $42.00 a year with NO deductible.
