Hi. I noticed last night (UK time) that both my iPhone 6S Plus & iPad Mini 4 stopped charging from their wall socket chargers.

They both have their own individual original Apple chargers, and are both new with their relative iOS devices.

Both chargers are plugged into separate sockets that also power other items ie alarm clock etc, so I know there isn't a problem with power at the sockets.

Both my iPhone & iPad still charge when connected to my imac (thankfully), and the iPhone still charges from my car charger (thankfully).

I was wondering if this could be a bug in iOS as both my devices stopped charging on same day. Maybe a bug about not recognising the digital certificates on the chargers or something?

Thanks in advance for your help

Not that I'm aware of.

By the sounds of it, its the actual USB wall adapter that's gone. If the USB leads are working on your iMac then I'd say that's were the fault lies with the wall adapter.

Are you on a PB?

Dunno what a PB is?

Both iPhone and the iPad have their own separate adopters along with own USB's. Both aren't working on either device. They are all official apple items

The USB attached to my computer is a seperate Lightning cable I have (it might even be a third party one too, but it still works lol)

The car charger is third party too

No I'm not on any betas, and the USB cables and adopters for both iPhone and iPad are the official ones that came with the iOS device

No not yet. I'm at work at moment.

Although I doubt that it is the individual sockets that have a fault as each iOS device is plugged into its own official apple USB cable and adapter, and each is plugged into seperate double wall sockets (1 of which have an an alarm clock plugged into one of them that still works), and every other electrical item on the sockets ring circuit is working.

Also, I just borrowed someone's iPhone wall charger at work to see if it's charges my phone. It doesn't

Ok, so i just popped home.

Tried plugging iPhone into its wall charger. Wouldn't charge.

Tried plugging it into another wall socket, and this time i get the "this accessory might not computable with this iPhone etc" message pop up. I clicked 'ok', then i heard the familiar beep sound and it started charging the iPhone.

So, i then unplugged it from that socket and plugged it into the original wall socket, and it is charging again.

So i think possibly the adapter had been sent a 'don't charge using this accessory signal' from the iPhone, and unplugging the adapter resets the signal as it doesn't have any memory? Or something*

Next, the iPad....

Tried plugging iPad back into it's original wall charger that was plugged into the same wall socket it has been for months. It didn't charge.... So i simply turned off the socket, unplug the charger, then plug it back in again, and switched it on. It worked first time.

Again, making me think its some accessory compatibility bug (even though all accessories are Apple products)

edit: just remembered about trying a work colleagues charger and it wouldn't charge either.....

It was a bug in the past, but the odds of it happening at the same time in two different devices is not an option.

Given the way you describe your connections it looks like you might be using a multi-socket adapter, a really bad idea in my experience.

Even if you use the usual standard pair of sockets, i think that the problem was an electrical issue.
It might have caused an unusual voltage that your devices detected and then they "flagged" the cube chargers as you said.

This is pure speculation as i don't know how iOS checks for the quality of the accesories, but it makes sense if the voltage/current is checked.
Either way, i'm still betting on the electrical issue, so maybe you should check your wall sockets

No I am not using any multi socket adaptors or anything similar. I have no need for any of these types of devices as I have plenty of double wall sockets.

When I mention 'adaptors' in any of my above posts, I am solely referring to the 3 pin UK plug transformer that the Lightning-USB cables plug in to. The official Apple versions with the official Apple Lightning-USB cables that came with the iPhone and iPad. 2W version for phone, and 5W for iPad.

Edit: to be clear- there are no 3rd party items connected in either way between the iOS devices and the wall sockets

Yeah, that's what i'm talking about. And no, you said like 5 times that you were using original adapters, i never suggested one of being third-party.

Point is i think is an eletrical issue in your wall

Well each wall charger was plugged into different electrical sockets.

Both electrical sockets both failing at same time (and now self rectifying?), I doubt as any fault in them would stay a fault as they are just hardware only, with no software/firmware/BIOS or whatever you want to call it going 'tits up'

I doubt it was an electrical supply problem, as both electrical sockets are connected to the same circuit that my imac, 2 alarm clocks, printer, wifi router, TV, XBox, Apple TV, fridge, are all connected to, with no problems to them either.

That's why I think it could be the 2W & 5W adaptors/transformers comparability bug

Okay, what about the odds of those bugs happening at the same time on different devices?

Not every device reacts the same way to power issues, trust me on that.

Well reason I thought it was a bug was like a few weeks ago where overnight a bug appeared on Safari, but been no reports anywhere (yet!)

OP said she/he borrowed a coworkers charger and it did not work. What are the odds of the OP home and work having electrical issues?

My first guess was i think you probably had a power surge or low voltage and the devices went into some sort of fail safe mode. But then why would it charge with the car charger and not your coworkers charger. I'm stumped.

I'm not talking about the adapter, i'm talking about the wall socket, and i'm also thinking exactly as you.
What i meant is that PCs, consoles and TV's all react differently when power issues occur

It is indeed a bug, i experienced it like a year ago. But afer a re-boot it went away.
Then i noticed that the power cube it was plugged into had an orange LED flashing, which means that current in my house was unstable

I know. What I meant is, OP borrowed her coworker charger while at work. Hence, I am assuming OP tried it at work.
So the OP tried a different cable, adapter, wall socket in a different geographical location and it still didn't work. My theory still does not add up basing off of the above.

Unsolved mysteries. lol.

It kinda does. You mentioned that i could go into some sort of "fail mode"...

Ahh i see your point now. You're right, given that case it should've worked on that scenario.
For now, let's be happy that OP's devices are charging again normally

OP did you check earthing at the sockets? Sometimes, lightning strike can cause these kind of problems.

I use Anker 60W 6 Port charger. They say it has surge protection to prevent these type of charging oddities.

Yes I tried a co workers charger while at work and it wouldn't charge either....

Been no lightning here, my house had RCD protection too- any current in the earth wires would trip the main fuse.
