Since doing the big update last night the remote no longer works directly with my Apple TV, and only offers a stream from my iTunes library. I will find it annoying, as I don't always have my iTunes running when using my Apple TV. Anyone else disappointed in the new Remote update?

The Apple remote app for the Apple TV is working on my 1st generation unit. I assume that you've updated to the latest release of the app (just came out yesterday) and that you are running the latest software release for your Apple TV and that you don't have your Apple TV hacked. Given the "correct" answer to all of those questions I think the remote app should be working.

I'm not sure what you mean by, "...only offers a stream from my iTunes library..." but there have been many reports over the last week that the iTunes Music Store menu items have disappeared from the 1st generation Apple TVs. No one knows whether this is a permanent change or whether it is a bug in Apple's iTunes Store that will eventually be fixed.

Note that even with the above problem (no iTunes Store Music menu) you should still be able to access your music under the "My Music" menu.

I have the same problem as dontlookback82. When I start the new Remote App 2.2 my only options are to connect through Home Sharing or to add a computer that is not using Home Sharing. If Home Sharing is not used, it appears that the computer has to be running iTunes as you have to enter the 4 digit code to establish the connection the first time.

I'm up-to-date on software across the board (Apple TV, iTunes, iOS 5) and my Apple TV is not hacked.

fpnc, could you describe how you got your 1st Generation Apple TV to work with the new Remote App version 2.2 that was just released?

You don't use Home Sharing to connect to the 1st generation ATV. Thus, start the Remote app, go into its Settings dialog (under the gear icon) and select "Add an iTunes Library." Then, on the Apple TV go into the Settings>General>Remotes screen and select your iPhone/iPod touch/iPad and enter the passcode that is displayed on your iOS device.

fpnc, Thank You!! I completely forgot about having to go into the Remotes setting on the Apple TV. It works great now.

Apple tv

I can't get my apple tv remote to show me the menu (where I can get to netflix)
I lost the remote that came with my apple TV but I was using the remote app...but now it won't work...I only get itunes and not the menu....
so I can't even get to this:
Then, on the Apple TV go into the Settings>General>Remotes screen and select your iPhone/iPod touch/iPad and enter the passcode that is displayed on your iOS device.

ideas>?
