This is kind of funny.
"New phones overwhelm campus

Duke University's Wi-Fi network has a problem -- the iPhone. Built-in Internet wireless adapters on AAPLthe new iPhone are crashing Wi-Fi access points by sending 18,000 data requests per second. Although other "smart phones" have similar capabilities, only the iPhone has shown to be able to overwhelm the campus' network. Neither Duke, Cisco nor Apple know why it's happening, but the school said if it occurs in the fall when students return, it would be a disaster. "

Read yesterday that Duke said they had tried to contact Apple but so far it was a one way conversation. :p

Not sure what they are wanting to hear. Sorry we sold so many that it slamming your network. :(

My first thought when reading this story was that I really hope the Duke IT department double checked everything on their end, otherwise they may end up looking pretty stupid if it ends up being their fault.

It seems like a strange problem--definitely *not* linked to numbers of iPhones (most Duke students are away, and the overwhelming connections are coming from only about two or three separate iPhones).

Not reported on any other campuses so far, at least not reliably, even if they're using the same (Cisco) networking equipment as Duke is, so it seems to be linked to a very specific configuration at Duke.

The Duke IT people are trying their best to figure it out, but haven't yet been able to replicate the problem in a controlled environment.

its a cisco AP that was causing the problem, probably on purpose, maybe cisco has some hard feelings left from the whole "iPhone" name lawsuit thing.
cisco trying to frame apple? lol
