Iphone jailbreak for GSM in another country

Hey guys, I was wondering if I could buy an iphone, jailbreak it for any GSM and take it another country and plug in that sim card and would it work?
I currently want to buy an Iphone for me to take to Iran. Would the GSM hacks apps work? and would this be easy because i know how to hack a touch. Thanks guys for the help.

Anything that unlocks the phone will work. Just unlock it and then you can pop in any GSM SIM and it'll work (assuming it's a network with one of the frequencies the iPhone supports, which it should be).
