We all know about geohot recently, and how he's gone a bit funny. Well calling him names isn't particularly pro-active. I know he's a bit arrogant, but the messages people are sending him on twitter are plain harsh, especially since he's essentially working for free.

Anyway, he's apparently not working on iPhone/iPod any longer.

So, that just leaves the Dev -Team. They are great, but less than fast at releasing new bits of software. So I came to think, what do we need to entice more skilled hackers to the arena (who knows, maybe even entice geohot to work again)? And then it came to me, a fund!

The idea is to use a trusted website like the ones used to for charity fund-raising e.g. virginmoneygiving.com (that's a friend of mine, by all means sponsor him if you like :D). We set a goal (why not multiple goals?), the next big achievement would be untethered jailbreak for the new boot rom. People who feel they would benefit from this, donate. First person to crack it in a user-friendly manner deemed adequate by an expert panel (have to work on this part) gets the prize money - of course, on condition that the new software is made available for free.

If you like this idea, please show your support.
If you want to help develop it/have a means to promote it also post
If you think it is just stupid please post too.

Ideas as to the website that could be used for the fund-raising?

i would gladly be happy to donate towards future jailbreaking software but i think finding a "trusted" website may have problems from the Apple law people...maybe something a little discreet!

I think you're right, but transparency is key for it to work... Any ideas of how to host the fund?

I'd kinda only donate after I got the JB...not before. (I donated to GeoHot!)

If the stories are true, people really should have supported George and not alienate him from iPhone jailbreaking. It seems that some users have managed to do what Apple couldn't do themselves...stop George from developing.

Are there any other alternatives to us Windows-platform Jailbreakers?
