I wonder if anyone could help.

Due to changing ISP I had to change my Apple ID which went fine. I went to re pair my Apple Watch and at one point it was asking me to enter my Apple ID for iMessage. However it was my old ID that it was asking for. It would not let me pass that point. There was nowhere to enter my new ID. Now I don't use iCloud but I am logged into the phone via the App Store and my new Apple ID is visible when I click my name on the Settings screen on the phone.

However underneath my name I have a message to Update Apple ID Settings

When I click on that it says Some account services require you to sign in again

When I click continue it asks for Apple ID Password and asks me to input the password for my old ID which does not exist

Don't know where it is storing the old ID and I suspect that is why I can't pair my Apple Watch

Should I do a clean install?

Any help much appreciated.

I would log out of your Apple ID on your phone and watch and then log back in with your updated ID. If that doesn't work, make sure the App Store is using your updated ID. And if needed, do a clean install.

I’ve had a similar issue for a decade or so. It rarely shows my old Apple ID but once in awhile it will pop up. In my case I believe it was trying to tell me that I have App Store purchases under that old Apple ID. But of course I changed my Apple ID. I didn’t create a new one. I’d be tempted to call support since this happened.

Apple doesn’t do Apple ID data transfer service. (Idk if any company offer such data migration service) As soon as data being pulled from Apple is paired with old Apple ID, it will prompt you to login to the old Apple ID.

I have no idea why switching ISP mandates switching ISP, but I suspect it’s the email issue. Regardless, you either have to restore access of your old Apple ID somehow, or accept and give up your old data as the result of deactivating your old Apple ID. Clean install should have the same effect.

I found part of the problem. Got my Apple Watch paired OK It was an entry in iMessage setting that was still set to my old Apple ID. So far all my Apps that I have pulled from the App Store with my previous ID seem to be working and being updated.

This is from the Apple support page:-

Change your Apple ID

If you no longer use the email address that's associated with your Apple ID , you can change it. You won’t lose access to your contacts, purchases, or other account information....

I still have one issue that I think I can live with for now and that is the bit under my name in Settings that says "Update Apple ID Settings" then "Some account services require you to sign in again" press continue then up pops a screen asking for the password for my old Apple ID (which is my old email address) with no way to enter my new Apple ID (new email address). I can't find where it is pulling this from. The message is permanently on that screen with a red dot with a 1 in it.

I still believe some data loaded on your iOS device is linked to old Apple ID that you don’t have. Maybe you should email Apple and see what help They can offer.

Problem solved, I went into System Preferences on my iMac clicked on the Apple ID button top right the clicked Name, Phone,Email. It then asked me to sign in to update my Apple ID which I did. Then looked at my phone and the prompt to update my Apple ID on the phone was now gone. The entry with the red dot had disappeared.

I feel your pain. I had a similar issue in the past with just my phone, wherein I was asked for the password for an Apple ID that never actually was my Apple ID. I spent an hour or so on the phone with Apple support to fix it. It happened again a couple of weeks ago during the setup of my new 14 and the re-pairing of my watch. This time I seem to have rectified it somehow, feeling a little like my own tech support. 😬 I may or may not be able to recreate my success.

Glad you got it fixed!
