Help!

For about the last 45 minutes, my iPhone 3G has been switching itself on and then after about 10 seconds going to the "slide to turn off screen", then back to the menu and then back to the "turn off" screen... Even if I do turn it off it switches back on again after a few seconds. A full restore didn't help, though it's just re-syncing my iTunes library and looks like it might have settled down again.

Has anyone else experienced this or know what could have caused it, or if it's likely to recur?

Thanks - very worried!

I was just about to post something similar to this.

After about thirty minutes of not using my iPhone, I looked over to the desk it was placed on, and it had turned itself off. This is the second time it has happened (had the phone since launch).

Turning it on revealed nothing unusual. All songs, SMS messages, and recent call history were all up to date.

I'm not sure if this is a major problem yet, but I'll wait to see how frequent it occurs to take any sort of action.

Hmmm.... mine's not fully turned itself off at all, it just goes to the "turn-off" screen. But if I do slide the red slider to turn it off, it's back on again after a few seconds.

Still syncing OK, so fingers crossed...

My apologies for reading it incorrectly. Good luck finding a solution.

You might try a "hard-boot" by holding the home button and the sleep/wake button down until the silver apple shuts off, (remember to ignore the "slide to power off" prompt), allow the iPhone to shutdown. Then start it up by pressing the sleep/wake button, and you've just did the "hard-boot" and should be good to go.

I tried Hard boot, still no success. I have a 2G phone with 3.0 firmware. My phone switches off automatically and the time setting changes. It does not show correct time. tried restoring it again and did not get all the backed up files. Still it goes off. dont know what to do.

I have the exact same problem. I recently added mobileme to my phone and its great but it seems to be causing these random switch offs. As soon as i turn mobileme off again the problem seems to be elliminated. Does anyone have a solution where i could have mobileme fully operational on my phone and not have my phone switching off every 5 mins?

Me too!

It does seem strange that there are several people who have this problem on their phones when we haven't heard of it before. Maybe it is that app. If the problem comes back I'll try removing the Mobile Me app.

I had the same exact problem starting last night going into this morning. I believe i tracked it down to my outlook account. I deleted my outlook account and reconfigured it and it seemed to work out. strange......

I had a similar problem with my 3G, but it wouldn't power back on by itself. I took it to the Apple Store and they replaced it with a refurb.
