Well, I received my iPhone about 2 days ago from a buddy of mine. I jailbroke it etc. After testing a few apps on it, it has seemed to become a little laggy. I don't know why this is, and I don't know how to fix it. I have tried restoring it but I'd like to at least back up my icons and pics before doing so. So what I did was in-fact make a back, and then restore. Then I re-applied the jailbreak to it, to see if maybe it was a program I had, that I removed causing the issue.

Upon re-jailbreaking and restoring I noticed alot of my settings were the same, but it was not lagging. So I began installing the apps back on, and I noticed they were downloading very fast and installing very fast, thus more than likely being it didn't delete the program files.

Currently on my iPhone I have roughly 160 contact, few CD's of mine, some and some pictures. As far as applications go, Cydia, Icy, Cycorder, iBluetooth, WinterBoard, FontSwap, iTypeFaster, MakeItMine, MxTube, Aim, Myspace, SBSettings, OpenSSH, Five Button Dock, and Five Button SpringBoard.

It was running nice and smooth, then out of no where it starting giving me lag, I think it started happening after accessing the AppStore, I'm not quite sure. Any advice on what I should do to fix this issue? It's a 2G iPhone. By the way, yes I am new around here, but I am not new to computer/electronics. I'm just new to iPhone's :)

Any help will be greatly appreciated, thanks!

From what I know, it is not a good idea to install Icy as the app is still kinda buggy right now.I would rejailbreak without Icy. I've also noticed that ever since jailbreaking my iPhone, it has become a little slower so I basically try not to go too all out with the jailbroken apps. I really only want Winterboard anyway!

Winterboard is usually the number one thing people recommend you uninstall if you're having slowdowns. I avoid winterboard completely since I couldn't care less about theming my phone. I care more about my phone working than how the icons look.

Well the reason I want winterboard is for the background image, I don't really care about the Icons. Is there a way to change it through SSH? Also, how do I completely wipe out everything, delete my backsups saved to my computer. Make a backup of my contacts and pictures, then wipe out my iPhone. Restore, jailbreak, sync.

How is this process able to be done? I mean, the phone was running fine until I got some apps from the AppStore it seems. Although I'll try what you guys are saying. Anyway to do what I asked above? Thanks!

Install BossPaper. The less Apps that I have installed (jailbroken or App Store) the faster my iPhone runs.

Well I restored my iPhone, got everything back up and running, installed more apps than i previously had and it's running smoothly. Don't know what happened to make it run the way it was.
