Hi, I am wondering if there is any official document or article that speaks about using iPhone without accessing WiFi. The reasons I am asking is that my elder mother has recently been upgraded to unlimited cellular plan and that kind of renders her home Internet as not really needed. She only has two devices - iPhone XR and iPad which she will use hot-spot for an occasional usage (she perhaps spends 1-2 hours a month on iPad).
Are there any services that will simply not work or stop working due to the fact that she no longer connects to WiFi? I am not concerned about iOS updates as I usually do that any I can manage that, but I am concerned about day-by-day usage.

In my experience the phone starts to slow down when I am cellular only for extended periods of time (1+ month). It works just not as smooth as Wi-Fi even though speed tests etc are the same as before. If you enable 5G app updates etc. should work same as wifi once allowed over cellular.

I had unlimited cellular only service for three years. No access to wifi.
Everything works fine except iOS and Mac OS updates so long as you're on the carrier's unlimited premium plan that doesn't throttle. If you choose the slightly cheaper fake unlimited plan, you'll get throttled down to dial up speeds so often that you'll want to pull your hair out.
Bottom line: if the cell tower isn't congested and the service doesn't go down, having a cellular only unlimited plan that doesn't throttle is fine.

I did hotspotting for years - and it's a pain on iOS that for sure - but it does work when it's connected

It sounds like she'll do just fine on cell only.

iCloud backups can't be done on cellular.

I did cellular only for an iPad, MBA and iPhone XR on a T-Mobile Magenta Max plan for about 4 months this past spring, and it worked fine. It was an experiment more than anything else. For updates I popped into the local library. I backed up the devices to the Mac > external drive. (Since then I've switched to a Mac Mini and full on Internet.)
