Seems strange, I know.

I plugged my iPhone in last night before going to sleep, it got the "battery charging" indicator, but when I woke up, it was only at 80% and still "charging".

I felt it and it was warm to the touch.

Turned it off, plugged it in, and turned it back on. Came back on with 99% charge. 5 minutes later, it was back down to 80% and kind of warm.

Is my phone toast?

This happened to me once. However I was using a portable solar charger and I know why it occured.

It'll lose charge when you've got it plugged in to a sleeping/shutdown computer.

Try charging by using the power adapter in an outlet.
