Iphone lost/stolen -erase

Hi,
Friday night I lost my phone (or stolen , not 100% sure) .
When I got home about 2 hours after , FindMY located the phone on the other side of town and either switch off or run out of battery.
Over the weekend still at the same location, I marked it as lost/stolen and call my carrier etc.. yesterday I tried to erase it and it says pending , I understand is because is not connected to the internet , but will I know if the phone changes location ?
If I genuinely dropped it and someone found it maybe they don't know what to do with it or if they do they are just waiting to ship the phone elsewhere?

Unlikely you will ever see it again. Possible location might update but savvy thieves will put device in faraday bag so no signal in or out. Then disassemble for parts. I would change all my important passwords and 2FA immediately.
