I was wandering what the iPhone's mic is for? Is it just for talking purposes? I thought the mic for having calls is usually not such a big "proper" mic.

It helps to have a mic unless you talk really loud or the person you are calling is very close by. Every phone that has and will be made has a "proper" mic (not sure what an "improper" mic is though).
